Good atmosphere, great coffee, and delicious gluten-free food options! I am coffee snob and I love this place. Julia is always friendly and welcoming!

Decent veggie sandwich with fresh veggies & salad on the side. Good customer service & free wifi. No complaints, did not try the coffee though. A bit too quiet/empty of a coffee shop to spend significant amount of time without feeling like you're the only customer there...

Blue Moon is the most neighborhood friendly/community driven coffee company I've ever been to. They take the time to ask you about your day, actually care how you're doing and the owner Julia is amazing. You could tell she trains her staff with the highest regard to customer service and community. The coffee is always the best and the atmosphere is very relaxing, yet welcoming. Please support this amazing local business that uses locally sourced ingredients and beverages/food!

I come here to study because they have great coffee. The atmosphere is warm and they have couches, bar stools, and tables to meet any type of social/work related need. Typically, I get lattes (which are excellent), but today I got an on-tap cold brew which was very tasty. Props to Blue Moon for keeping up with the ch-ch-ch-changes.

Some of the best coffee in the area. Very friendly, and because I go there so often, and the staff is not a revolving door, they recognize me. The owner is the nicest owner I know. We chat most times. All of their lunch menu is good, from english muffins, to sandwiches, to soups.

Just stopped in and had a great first experience! The vegetarian sausage breakfast sandwich had was soooo good! Not too mention the coffee was delicious. This place gets an easy 5 stars!

Great. Friendly service. Great cocoa. Just got done at a doctors visit near here and stopped in to recoup. Good cocoa, I should have taken a pic. Lol. Anyways, I definitely recommend it.

I recently moved and it's no longer convenient to go to my favorite not so local coffee shop. In an attempt to find one that is closer I landed here today. I feel so lucky to have found success on my first try! Not only is the coffee good, the food hot, the chairs comfortable and the atmosphere very nice, I love how the baristas recognize the patrons and everyone is a regular. I will most definitely be coming back.

Fantastic! Again, piping hot drip decaf Stumptown coffee in the afternoon. Simple syrup and hemp milk easily available. Great cookies. The only thing they need are METAL stirring spoons. Otherwise, the last good coffee shop south of Portland before you hit Salem.

Healthy and pastry options. Lots of ppl for lunch, so in guessing good. Good wifi, comfortable for working or studying.

I had a long appointment over at the Asthma and Allergy doctors today and ate breakfast earlier and now lunch. The food is amazing! I have stopped in on other doctor visits and just grabbed a coffee which was also delicious. One of the most inviting things about coming here is how friendly everyone is especially a lady named Julia. I've been in a few times and I really pay attention to how she treats people. She is sincere and acts like she generally has a love for people and what she does. It's refreshing to know there are still some decent people in this world. I would come here just to see her. She's one of those people who just put you in a better mood. Ok, I have a delicious Raspberry Turkey Sandwich to finish :) It's been about a month since I've been in to eat and today did not disappoint. I had the Turkey and Cheese breakfast sandwich and Stumptown coffee. The owner Julia offered me a sample of their new nitro cold brewed coffee and it was so delicious. I normally use cream and sugar in my coffee but this was so delicious it almost didn't even need any of that. Come in to eat and drink. You won't be sorry.

Hands down the best coffee shop in the Portland Area! They pull better shots than Stumptown, which is the what they serve. I talked to Julia, the owner, and found out it is because they service their machines per schedule, which no other coffee shop really does. Friendly staff. Say hi to Scott!

What a nice little surprise tucked in the corner! Ordered an iced tea (which I thought was just a black tea and turned out to be a fabulous fruit tea of some sort, passion fruit maybe?) as well as a raspberry turkey sandwich. Sweet and savory with a little raspberry sauce and tangy dijon. It was a perfectly delicious lunch! The two guys in there were super friendly and laid back. I loved the atmosphere. Very relaxing - from the local art to the music overhead and the sea - blue paint. Someone did a fantastic job and hired the right personalities out front. Will certainly ly be back!

2.5 stars.....kinda spars. And after all the fuss......I find that they serve Bridgetown Coffee...(big deal) I thot they were roasting their own coffee :( I did buy a cup.

  • Nicole H.

Super cute local coffee shop. The coffee was tasty, the pasty I got was good as well. And the employees were all super nice. No complaints whatsoever!

  • Luisa G.

The owner is lovely, but her staff need some work in friendliness. The coffee is fine, and the atmosphere is lacking here. I probably won't be back.

EvolvedIdeas.net team visited Blue Moon today for a memorably successful meeting! The chai was cinnamony, the cappuccino was awesome, the americano was good but not the best, but the turkey avocado sandwich was dry. The seating was lovely -- indoor had leather comfy chairs and there was a sunny outdoor patio. The bathroom was unisex. Overall, the place had a great environment, art and staff.

    (4)
  • Kelsey R.

They serve Stumptown espresso and coffee which is consistent and perfectly made every time I go. Staff is super friendly and support community with local featured art on their walls. Prices are a little high probably due to the quality of their coffee, but makes it worth it. Great place for a lunch break with lunch, breakfast and on-the-go snack/pastry type options. gluten-free options as well.

Have been back to this place a few times since my first unpleasant experience. My doctors office is near by so I try an make a stop every time I come through. I've had their black coffee and a hot mocha since and they were both quite good. I haven't tried an iced drink again yet as I'm not sure if they're still doing them the same. So if you want a nice hot drink though with a cozy environment, you should be good to go! Oh, they also sometimes post some really beautiful and nice art their. It is quite nice to look at while waiting for your coffee.

Great stumptown espresso, really amazing foam, good baked goods, and they carry hemp almond milk for those who are allergic to dairy.

Remember that glorious feeling when you were little and you announced that you were running away? That brief glimpse of freedom and opportunity? Well as an adult, I still run away from my desk at work. This community spot is an excellent option to run away to. I frequently run away here with my Bird. We snag some Stumptown coffee and plop on the comfy couches, enjoy the local art and share a cookie. The cookie is crucial. Their chocolate chip cookies with the hint of orange and melty chips always convince me that there are no problems in life that can't be minimalists by a really good cookie. It's like when your mom finds you after you decided 10 minutes of freedom gives you a hug and convinces you to come back. I definitely go back to work more begrudgingly than I returned home, but at least I am then fueled by caffeine. My employer should definitely send Blue Moon a thank you card for the magic they work on me.

What a difference a year makes. My first few visits here, all over a year ago, were rather mediocre. Everything was fine, but not memorable. But now they've raised their profile because earlier this year they switched coffee roasters and now make their drinks with Stumptown Coffee beans. The entire space looks like it went through a renovation and I like the cool blue walls and artwork. This location is quite convenient, near the intersection of Kruse Way and Boones Ferry Road in the Merchantile Plaza. The reason I'm in the area is to visit the Lake Oswego Booktique which is in the same building. It is one of my go to spots for picking up cheap used books. So rather than venture farther into Lake Oswego to visit my favorite local coffeehouse, Chuck's Place, I am now perfectly happy getting my hot or iced drinks here. Nice selection of counter seating, a couch and a couple tables. There is outside seating under a covered roof, which means you can enjoy the patio on sunny or rainy days. Such a nice surprise when a place is nicer than you remember.

Starbucks seemed to be king in Lake O. You can find one every 400 yards it seems and there always seems to be a long queue of cars and/or people. I'd suggest leaving Starbucks behind and heading over the Blue Moon Coffee instead. I've only recently moved to Lake O and just made my first trip recently, but I will definitely be back soon. It's now my favorite coffee joint in the Lake Grove area, and there are quite a few options in the area, actually. They serve Stumptown, and my dad gave it two thumbs up. He also mentioned that despite our visiting at 430 in the afternoon, his brewed coffee from one of those insulated containers was piping hot, which doesn't always happen late in the afternoon. I ordered a matcha green tea with hemp milk and was pretty excited to see hemp on the menu since most places (and definitely Starbucks) seem to serve only soy. We both ordered pastries (a scone and a cookie) and both were clearly freshly made. Too many times have I ordered pastries from coffee shops and even bakeries where the items were day old or older and were clearly stale. I don't think it's okay to sell stale bakery at full price. No issues with this a Blue Moon. The scone and the cookie were great! The interior is cute with plenty of tables and a computer with internet available. I also liked the art displayed from a local artist. It happened to be a lot of dog/cat paintings, coasters, cards, etc. Really cute stuff and at a variety of prices ($3 for a greeting card up to $200 for a large painting). I'll definitely be back for soon coffee, tea, breakfast and paninis!

I love the coffee and the quiche. This is my favorite local place to come. You should try there lunch sandwiches very yummy also.

  • Ang H.

Nice work Lake O! You have a great coffee shop here. Stumptown coffee, good foam, great coffee to syrup ratio in the latte, perfect coffee temp. Decent breakfast options- ham and cheese sandwich is solid. Muffins are yummy. When I don't want to go to Ptown for Albina, Barista, or Blend, I'll be at Blue Moon.

    (4)
  • Laura L.

Stumptown coffee. Cheerful service. They'll also make bagel sandwiches with veggie sausage. Try the fried/scrambled egg with tomato, avocado, and veg sausage. The fleur de sel chocolate chip cookies are amazing. Also offer fresh salads, pannini, etc. and gluten-free scones

  • Patrick S.

Hmmm not bad. Great location, for me that is... right up the street and nestled in little Lake Grove section of LO. Coffee.... Ubiquitous. Wanna guess who's coffee they serve? Ambiance... it's alright. Sandwiches and stuff. Bakery items were all sold out when I got there so I guess that's good for them, bad for me though, or good I suppose (watchin' those calories) What can I say except that it is like the stars say "A-OK" Enjoy

  • Jessica S.

Do not be deceived by the outside of the building. I walked in today and was blown away. It's super nice on the inside. They were playing really nice music; everything was very clean; plus they have a MAC station avaiable to all customers. I thought that was pretty neat. I got an iced coffee on my visit today and needless to say I will come to this place over Starbucks any day. The only reason for 4 stars is because I didn't order any food and got my drink to-go.

    (4)
  • Raina T.

Come here pretty much every day for my morning coffee...they know my name, they know my order, they even know my car so by the time I walk in, they've already started making my drink! Can't go wrong with Stumptown Coffee. The pastries and breakfast sandwiches are really good and a great way to start the morning, when I feel like treating myself to something more than just my usual. The staff is pretty awesome too :)

Was a morning regular for over a year and I'm not sure if times got tough for them with Starbucks moving in across the street, but they noticeably changed. The once easy going and friendly owners that slaved away each and every day became rude, distant and started nickel and diming. To the point where they hid their normal 20oz Large cups and tried pawning the 16oz cups off as the same. When I asked the owner for the cup I'd been buying every day for the last year, she said that size is now 20 cents higher. It wasn't much longer before the owners were spending less and less time there and the service was going in the tank. Didn't go back for almost two years and decided to try them again since I like to support small business and they're very close to where I work. Wow. No improvement. Maybe worse. I took a client with me that did not have this back story and when we left he made a comment to me that it's good to know that if in the area he knows where to never get coffee. Sad. So much potential. Maybe, once again, I caught them on a bad day or maybe they hired some bad staff or maybe a lot of the existing clientele don't know Blue Moon from the beginning and how expectations are everything. If all you've had is Meh, then Meh is good. Blue Moon was great, so I expect them to strive to be great. Sadly, it appears they've given up. Good: If the wife still bakes, then her baked goods rock. Soup. The coffee is still good. Ambiance. Music (he still throws in some Cash) Bad: Staff. Sandwiches are nice, but it's hardly better than a kids packed lunch. Seriously, nothing special, not even close, but the ingredients are fresh.

Four years later, still love this place. So nice to have a nearby place with reliably yummy treats and Stumptown coffee! Also, I appreciate the covered outdoor seating for when I have my dog with me.

  • Katie M.

I vist this place three times or more a week and they know me by name. Thats what I call service. When I order espresso they spend the time to make it just right so I can enjoy it.

    (5)
  • Kristen Martha B.

Trust me, serving Stumptown doesn't mean much if the baristas don't really know what their doing, or don't care. You can tell the owner cares hires and kids who care, and trains them well. You won't find anything consistently better between here and Water Avenue/Coava to the north, and Trust me, if there were decent espresso 10 miles south of this place, I'd have found it. I've suffered much bitter coffee trying. Oh and...it's super comfy inside and they make their own eggnog. Don't let the strip mall locale and lack of hipsters fool you, this place is the real deal.

  • Dick C.

This is the best coffee house in the area. How could anyone frequent the Death Star, Starbucks with blue moon a half block away. They serve STUMPTOWN and the best bagels. Try them for sandwiches too, the Cubano is a treat and soups are fresh and terrific

  • Keith F.

Ordered quiche and was served something between two English muffins. The order was corrected and a cold and undercooked quiche was returned. I asked for the quiche to be cooked and it was returned luke-warm. Also, they have no condiments. No pepper, salt, salsa, hot sauce, nothing. If I would have kept that English muffin thing, all I would have had is a dry sandwich. Stay away from this place.

I'm grateful for a Stumptown coffee provider in the Lake Oswego area, that I can easily drive to. The breakfast sandwiches are yummy and the scones are great, as well.

Comfy, quiet coffee shop with great homemade lunch and snacks!

Love this place! In addition to the option of soy, Hemp milk is offered! They make their own vanilla flavoring. Staff is so nice! Delicious gluten free cookies! I stop here whenever I can!

Perfect to warm up in the morning and much slower then starbucks. As in the traffic is slower. Free Wi-Fi is always nice also!

So, I just found out about Blue Moon over the last few weeks and then paid my first visit this week. Tell you what, this is fantastic! For the last couple months I've been searching for a solid coffee spot that's en route on my way to work (driving from West Linn to Beaverton). I've been desperate to find a place that isn't too far out of my way. Seriously. For a brief few moments I've actually contemplated driving deeper into PDX for coffee prior to making my way to work in Beaverton. Anyway, back on track for the review, I've been very pleased with my couple visits here. The service has been great, the owners have been super friendly. They serve both Stumptown *AND* Intelligentsia. I came expecting Stumptown, but Intelligentsia was a great surprise. This could be a recent addition? None the less, the coffee has been solid. Way better than all the other options in these suburbs. The location is what puts them over the top for me (if deeper in PDX it'd probably fall closer to 3 or 3.5 stars). Combine that with quality coffee and great service - you got a winner. My morning commute has now been altered a couple times per week in order for a brief visit at Blue Moon. Totally worth it. No more suffering through Starbucks...

I NEEDED a coffee this afternoon, which is odd because I don't usually need a coffee. I only happened into Blue Moon because it was near where I had an appointment. The barista asked me how my day was going and, figuring that I would never see him again, I told him the truth: it was for crap, lousy in fact. He seemed genuinely bummed by that. His was going okay, it didn't seem so super, but he didn't share much more, either. The ice coffee was GREAT!!!!! And, he had more kind words and a great smile and I think I will go back next time I have an appointment anywhere near Blue Moon. Maybe I will bring a friend and try one of the lunch offerings that I'm reading about here. Service goes a long way with me and this was the best.

This place is awesome. It's the best place to grab coffee in the Lake O area. They serve Stumptown coffee and their vanilla lattes are fantastic. The baristas are friendly and the latte art always makes for a fun experience.

  • Lucky B.

This is a nice coffee place in LO. nothing fancy but if you are looking for a place nearby this was good. Food was just ok, my food needed more flavor or at least they could have salt and pepper shakers for patrons to use. Nothing too exciting but good.

I ordered a sandwich - half to eat there and half to take home for later. The turkey sandwich was so incredibly delicious I couldn't unwrap the 'to go' half fast enough!! What a surprising treat. I went to Blue Moon as I begin my search for comfortable and friendly places to work on my thesis. I need wi-fi, coffee, and a range of 'ok' atmosphere selections. This place won on coffee (omg), wi-fi (very strong signal, no bothersome sign on process needed), and a great selection of Pandora tunes in process!! I loved it!!! I only needed one more thing, unfortunately, and that is table space. Sit-up-straight-with-with-computer-power table space. I can use the couches for my reading activities, but when I have to be writing and annotating and researching... I need said table space. And I guess I need it next to a window!! (dang I am picky!) I WILL BE BACK. IF I cannot grab one of the few tables, I can go next door ... and continue to use Blue Moon's very strong wi-fi signal!! GREAT!!

Blue Moon pulls a great espresso, and for serious espresso nuts they've recently been pulling a second type of espresso most days. I love being able to try new coffees this way, since too many shops keep the same espresso blend and only rotate out their pour over or french press options. They always have Stumptown's Holler Mountain, but they've recently rotated Intelligentsia, Verve, & a Stumptown single-origin in also. The free, un-timed wi-fi and even an open Mac (in case you're not carrying a laptop already) make it even better. The music changes from day to day, but it isn't quite what you get at the Ace Hotel Stumptown (that could be because their audience is mostly middle-age Lake Oswego types). Then again, it keeps the place a bit quieter and I can work here better. Plus, the cushy chairs make it a lot easier to put your feet up for hours than most chairs or stools.

Just went there for the first time to get a mocah & use the WIFI. Coffee was good & the atmosphere was fun. Great little place!

I started visiting Blue Moon Coffee about 4 months ago to relax for a few minutes in the morning with coffee and my email. Wow- the coffee drinks are fantastic and honestly the service has been superb. Espresso is done right here. This place has a wonderful homey feel and is very clean. I've had the scones, quiche, and oatmeal. All were tasty and worth having again.

Just got back from New York and was spoiled rotten on Joe Coffee espresso. Craved that pure European pull. Blue Moon didn't disappoint. Nice job on the double espresso.

Wonderful coffee shop, great coffee, very clean and comfortable with friendly service. I haven't tried the food yet but definitely will. I wish they were open Sunday mornings so I could read the paper there, but I guess they need a break. We were driving into Portland for coffee so I'm glad to find this place so near our house.

I gave another try for this place to see if there is any upgrade from my previous visit. Well, when I stopped by around lunchtime a few days ago, I remembered seeing one of the faces from my previous visit; so, nothing new there! They still performed the latte art presentation; however, the barista seemed to struggle to bring the perfect look in the final cup. I saw the cracked bubble on the top of my latte. For me, an espresso based drink is more for the taste; and if you are not really an expert in latte art, then just skip this part and just serve the good drink. I also tried their soup of the day: Taste point-not bad; Price point-$4.50 for a very small bowl with a couple of tiny pieces of bread. It was a little bit pricey for such an okay taste; but again, this is Lake Oswego and it is okay to overcharge the customers in Lake Oswego. For some reason, new merchants in this town seem to assume that we will keep coming regardless. LOL...it's not for me though. I will pay the higher price for great tasting stuff; and, I am willing to travel a longer distance for the better soup/sandwich as well as a better latte. Sorry folks, I am not impressed by your new management. I love the old folks, who were operating this place a few years ago before this new management took over. Back in early 2008, I used to be one of their regular customers. I enjoyed their originality everyday, but now I will say....This is it! I am not coming back. Good Luck to all of you.

Blue Moon Coffee is my every day coffee place. I have been coming in for several years now and I just love it. First off they have great coffee. One of the only places in LO to serve Stumptown. The staff obviously cares a lot about coffee, and the taste proves it. They have also been serving more of a variety of beans lately which is great for regulars like myself. All of that would normally enough for anyone to want to check this place out, but on top of all of that they have a great food menu as well! The owner is a fantastic chef, and proves it daily by making unique and tasty soups. They also have great seasonal sandwiches and salads. What can I say? I just love this place. Do yourself a huge favor and check them out!

Outstanding. Went to Blue Moon initially for lunch. Panini was delicious, fresh and reasonably priced. Have since experienced the coffee which is prepared by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Ambiance is clean and quiet. Highly recommend!

I don't know how I've driven past this place a 100 times on the way to work and never found it. Stumptown in the suburbs, friendly service, great muffins...how can you go wrong? They even give you latte art. Can't get any of that ash bucks coffee.

  • John F.

Great cappuccino and absolutely scrumptious chocolate croissants. But perheaps the best thing about this cafe is the staff, they're incredibly friendly and personable. The place is owned by a husband and wife. They were incredibly nice, my first time in they gave me a free cappuccino. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you're in the area and looking for a pastry and some coffee or need a nice comfy place to do some work check out Blue Moon.
